“Pozdrav Sunca” or the Greeting to the Sun is one site you’ll find yourself talking about for years to come. So, leave your suite and take a short walk towards the city’s waterfront and you’ll experience something so truly unique to Zadar — it will be unforgettable.
Here is the lowdown on this masterpiece:
Croatian architect Nikola Bašić designed the piece to symbolize how nature communicates with us through light, while the nearby Sea Organ communicates with sound.
It is a 22-meter diameter circle with three hundred, multi-layered glass plates with solar modules underneath. It is placed on the same level as the stone-paved waterfront. This installation represents the sun.
Beside the main "Sun" installation, there are similar smaller installations representing other planets of the solar system.
The chrome ring that surrounds the Greeting to the Sun is inscribed with names of all of the saints after which churches on the Zadar peninsula have been named.
Lighting elements installed in the circle produce a light show at night.
The entire system annually produces about 46,500 kWh. It produces half of the energy needed for lighting of Zadar waterfront.
Take our advice - visit at sunset and stay until the night falls to experience this art for all its worth.
